Frequently Asked Questions

What is a safe-deposit box and how does it work?
A safe-deposit box is a locked storage container kept inside our bank vault. You rent the box on an annual basis and are given a key to access it. A second key is held by the bank, and both keys are required to open the box, which means your contents are only accessible to you.
Who can access my safe-deposit box?
Only you and anyone you designate as a co-renter or deputy can access the box. You'll need to visit your branch in person with your key and a valid photo ID.
What happens if I lose my key?
Contact your local FSBT branch right away. It's a good idea to keep your key in a consistent, secure location at home.
Is my safe-deposit box insured?
Safe-deposit boxes and their contents are not insured by the FDIC. You may wish to check with your homeowner's or renter's insurance provider, as some policies cover off-premise valuables. FSBT is not responsible for the loss or damage of box contents.
Can I access my safe-deposit box anytime?
Access is available during regular branch business hours. You cannot access your box after hours or on bank holidays.
Do I need an FSBT account to rent a safe-deposit box?
Yes. You must have an active checking or savings account with First State Bank & Trust Co. to be eligible.
How do I save on my safe-deposit box rental?
Club Rewards members receive a 25% discount on each safe-deposit box rental. Ask a Personal Banker about adding Club Rewards to your checking account.
What sizes are available?
We offer multiple box sizes at each location and availability may vary. Visit or call your local branch to confirm current availability.
